Have you been reading the news for the last year ? Saab used to be the largest employer, but not any more. Draw some conclusions from that. Otherwise my impression as a visitor only was that it was a sleepy little town once you subtracted the river/canal tourist interest.

It seems to be a fairly pretty town, as that's where they filmed "Farsan", and it looked lovely to me.
Of course, that's purely looks-and I doubt they would have filmed in any dodgy areas anyway. I can't speak for the job situation except what we all already know. |

Met a woman on a train last year who was a local and very proud of the area but also had very strong views on government responsibility and this issues that faced the area.
It gave me a feeling they may be a very traditional area, so as long as you blend in and look the same you should be welcomed. But if you don't look or talk the same as what is considered svensk, I don't value your chances. either way, enjoy and let us know. |

If you are willing to commute there are plenty of places to work.
Göteborg is one hour away, Uddevalla is 30 minutes away, and Vänersborg is 20 minutes away. The region has a lot of companies in the vehicle and the aerospace industry. Volvo Aero is the biggest employer in Trollhättan. Volvo Cars (formerly Pinifarma) is the biggest employer in Uddevalla. Autoliv has their factory in Vårgårda. VGB Group is located in Vänersborg. |

Open a browser window... it looks like this window in which you are reading these posts.
Then on top bar type is www.google.com. Then type in trollh... whatever you are looking for... and voila.. there you get more and more information. If you are advanced user of internet this might work as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trollh%C3%A4ttan http://www.vastsverige.com/en/Visit-Trollhattan-Vanersborg/ More information follows. |

If your job is in Grästorp why not live there? House prices are massively cheaper than in Trollhattan.

if your just looking for temporary living while you wait to buy or rent the perfect place I can suggest Swedenborg Center.
http://www.swedenborgcenter.se/Default.asp...nter.se/engelsk its the old hospital that was made into apartments in the 1990's. they keep the students in one area and the families and corp. rentals towards floors 7,8,9. simple, furnished, close to downtown. I suppose a 10 minute drive to Grastorp. |
