... intrusion of personal space. I got the message and know what to do...I will try to be à roman when I am in rome and give them the taste of their own medicine. "When in Rome…." is the constant refrain sung by the love-it-or-leave-it choir, and while it it is tempting to dance to their tune, I have to say I'm with byke on this: why lower your standards? Lead by example ! Yeah, you're right, but after years of repeating the common courtesies--excuse me, after you, with your permission, I am sorry, please, It was my fault (when he crashed into me)--I am almost ready to abandon hope. |

Have to agree with you Cogito. After trying what feels right for so long you realize you are being taken the Mickey out of. You hold the door open for 10 people and without anyone saying thank you the last one slams the door in your face. I just don't think people even realize they are rude and more look at it as if you are stupid to stand there holding the door open we will walk over you.. |

We're told to "Learn the social queues of Sweden" which is the same for every country, their social queues as it were. If you feel like you're being taken advantage of then behave like they do. But of course, you can't help it, acting like a non-Swede, because you're not one to begin with. So you feel stuck in a vicious cyle of helping and not feeling the love back. You will survive |
