(edit title) Permanent Residency - Work outside Sweden Working in other EU country Options

Hello Everyone

I have been recently granted a Permanent Residency after completing my 5 years in Sweden . I would like to know if i am eligible to look for a job in another EU country like Germany , Belgium etc . The IT jobs related to my skillset are very few when compared to other EU countries.

What is process of getting the Job in other EU country when you hold a Permanent Residency in Sweden. Some of the forum suggested that one should have sweden citizenship then only it's possible to look for job in EU countries , if so am i eligible to apply for the sweden citizenship when i have been recently granted Permanent Residency.

Pls suggest.

The question is ... if You get a job in any other country and become a resident there, then Your Swedish PUT will be revoked.

You simply exchange your Swedish PUT with, e.g., German (or other EU country) PUT. Search for "long term resident". UK, Ireland, and Denmark are not participating to this PUT-exchange scheme. So you can go ahead and find a job in Germany or Belgium, then apply to this exchange.

Thank you yorkshireman and kibiri for the valueable information...just want to add one more thing which i missed to mention perviously . I come from a NON-EU country on work permit to Sweden . As now i have granted PUT , will this make me eligible to look for the jobs in other EU countries. Pls guide me.

You cannot simply exchange your PUT with another country, that is specific for Sweden!

As a non.EU resident, having been a resident in Sweden for 5 years, You need to apply to Migrationsverket for the Status as Long Term Resident, if approved You will then receive yet another permit ...Note: to be approved You need to provide proof that You can provide for yourself and family!

Once You have the Status as long term resident, and the permit that goes with that (EC Residence permit for long term residents) , You can move around Europe almost the same as an EU Citizen, normally you can stay for 3 months without having to apply for a permit, after 3 months you normally have to apply for a permit in that country ...You need to check each countries rules.

However, as said before, if You become resident in any other country your Swedish PUT will be revoked.

A permanent residence permit can be revoked if the person moves out of Sweden and does not move back within 12 months. Returning for short visits does not count, you must be a Swedish resident to keep the permit. The Migration Board will try to contact the person before a decision to investigate if there are any reasons not to revoke the permit, eg. if the person plan to move back to Sweden in the near future.

I dont recommend any body to live out side SWEDEN before he guarantee Swedish Passport.

With out SWE passport , i think its useless to leave Sweden (Sverige).

So be patient and get ur SWE pass.

I have left Sweden and returned for years without a SWE pass. I might get a SWE pass when my current pass expires, but that doesn't mean you can't leave ! LOL.

I've been in a similar situation in 2008 when I exchanged the permanent residence of another EU country into the Swedish one because my working contract said a company is going to employ me 10+ years. But it was then. Now times are different. It is virtually impossible to find a job in another EU country in your circumstances (non-EU citizenship). If you leave Sweden, then after one year your permanent residence will automatically become void. However, if you got lucky and found the employment in another EU country, then it may make sense to go there even if you will lose your Swedish permit. Due to the crisis, EU citizenship lost any value to non-EU professionals, because what is a point to stay unemployed in Sweden if one loses a job?

its clear , that if u want to leave sweden and get benefit of the truth that u stayed at sweden and u got its citizenship

you must get this pass , other wise all cards PUT or anything else outside SWEDEN useless

You be considered that u remained at ur same nationality !

And all cards are subjected to change by any rules or cancelled or revoked ,but pass is permanent lifetime

Honestly I don't get the point of long term status when you can stay in a country for 5 years and get a citizenship, what's the point of roaming your PUT from one country to another, unless there is emergency case. Or maybe because it takes five years on all EU countries to get this status, but to get citizenship it's different, eg it's 5 years in Sweden, but 8 years in Germany etc.

Anyway if someone knows the reason such a status exists would be cool to hear

People have their reasons, but I guess the most common is that some countries do not allow dual citizenship. For example if a Chinese citizen (People's Rep. of China) wants to get Swedish citizenship, then she would have to give up her Chinese citizenship. For such person it makes very much sense to have this long term resident status.

The ONLY reason I am applying for citizenship and getting a Swedish passport when my British one expires is because the new procedure for renewing a British one has become cumbersome and expensive, and I am standing up against it out of principle. Otherwise I don't see the point - what does it enable you to do that a PUT doesn't? Vote? Big deal.

The OP made it very clear that he/she is not an EU citizen. So any comparison or criticism with regard a British passport is completely irrelevant to this topic. The question is valid.
