If Charles, horse face, William, Harry & Kate were not associated with the royal family of England they would most likely appear regularly in local papers for public urination. You really have to be going out of your way or be of a certain caliber of STUPID to frolic naked in Vegas or topless on a porch, near a road and not believe you will be photographed.

many people say that if you are int he public eye that you should expect such an outcome and expect to be hounded by the media... however, Kate is not a 'celeb' in the normal sense. She did not rise to fame because she 'choose' to as such, i.e. reality show, artist etc... She is known because of the fact she is married to a Royal and thus became a Royal herself.
In all fairness, if a photo was taken of Madonna or lady Gaga in the same circumstances I would literally take the view of not giving a single sh*t. But because of the fact that Kate does not set out to abuse or profit from her appearances in magazines or TV she deserves the right to privacy surely?? The French magazine that published the pictures (and the Irish tabloid also) only published the pics because of the scandal factor which equals sales for them. The funny thing however is that this episode will only endear Kate to the public more methinks. She is about to become an even bigger media darling and probably one of the most famous and powerful women on the planet in due course. Anyway, she continues to have my sympathies. |

I agree with Shibumi earlier. The popular press has just become so DUMB!!
The problem is the behaviour of everybody who chose - from the photographer to the editor - to enable these images to go to print. There are many millions of people who are interested in reading/viewing this type of story and they create an insatiable market for these photos. |

many people say that if you are int he public eye that you should expect such an outcome and expect to be hounded by the media... however, Kate is not a 'celeb' in the normal sense. it's a fair point, her sister however has used her position as sister of etc.. to her advantage in the media. Which I don't object to, but you have to expect the media to then be on your case all the time, not just when it suits you. However I don't think Pippa is daft when it comes to the media and probably more aware of it than Kate. At the end of the day it's just the bored french journos, because previously they could fill papers talking about the president and his wife, now they have bland and blandette to follow, so you can hardly blame them for looking for an interesting story. If they had approached the royalty formally, said do you mind doing a few photos on holiday, then we disappear and leave you alone", that would be a fair and appropriate way to manage the royalty privacy / media interest problem. They've done stuff like this before when they've gone skiing. I do think their royal assistant / courtiers let them down and should have warned them, that they were likely to be watched. If people use big lenses to grab photos at Balmoral, Sandringham etc. then it's likely to happen else where to. |

I can hardly believe it, Byke showing a sense of humour, and displaying photos of royalty in such a way. You'll have the French magazines after you for breach of copyright next, old fellow.

My opinion...you needn't agree and I know you won't, but here it is.
If you would consider that the public at large loves to see pictures of this sort, and buys the newspapers that publish them in their thousands...Then the photo guy is only filling a need and will be paid for his services...so why not take the pictures and get paid? Mind you now, I think that drug addicts, not the dealers are the root of the drug problem...they know drugs are illegal and still want them...ergo...supply and demand one of the principles that the world has been run on for centuries. Personally I would not buy such a publication and the people that do are...well, shall we say a bit out of touch with what is important in life...mammaries at half a mile are just pixels and are not well represented...I like to savor them up close and personal...how about you? |

...when you are a celebrity you trade away your privacy for fame and fortune... Precisely. Royals, like Hollywood stars, have a symbiotic relationship with the press. It's a two-way street of mutual exploitation. Royals use the press to promote themselves. They pay publicists whose job is to flog flattering images of themselves. Then they whine when the press exploits them back? Those who are so terribly offended might direct some of their outrage toward the reader-fans who feed on royalty--whether in Hollywood Buckingham Palace. The rags would die without readers who pay to read them. |

I disagree. In Middleton's case she has never used the press for self-gain. Moreover she used the media to promote worthwhile causes, i.e. she selflessly uses her media profile for the public good.
Readers will buy the trashy mags especially when scandal is concerned, but they will also buy same POS trash mags because there is a need to fulfill their curiosity. Same way that people slow down to rubber neck at a car crash. It is human nature. The whole point was if the photographer and the original publishing mag broke ethics on the basis that Middleton was at the time not in public, and presumed herself to be in private company. What next... pictures of her on the toilet? |

If people in the public eye deserve to be violated in any manner whatsoever - how far can we push it? should we be allowed to watch them on hidden webcams planted inside their houses?
Its one thing to take a picture of them looking bad in public. Its another entirely to use a telephoto lens over a mile away to to take peeping tom photos. |

Some pictures and maps on the BBC news and we site show that it is quite probable that the photos were most probably taken from within the grounds as the pool area is blocked by trees from the road. The french police are now trying to establish the spot the photo's were taken from. Closer has 24 hours to hand over the original digital pics. That will help the police to establish the point.
