I had to see it with my own eyes... but I wouldn't worry about it, it's my island!

I think the noise is from the jet propulsion engine required to keep them up there, nothing to worry about. They're probably flying home via the scenic route, or giving a back seat treat to some vip visiting their base. |

We are on the coast and frequently have low level training flights pass overhead so find it nothing unusual hence my tongue in cheek comment as to whether they were shooting at one another!
It was most likely a training flight or as skogsbo suggests a jolly for someone. |

Maybe Assad, has had to look for other nations to supply his regime?
Given the latest seizure by Turkey. |

At a guess they were using their month's supply of fuel on a little training jolly.
At all other times they have to run up and down the runway flapping their arms and shouting 'Bang' since the fuel ration is used up but they must still get 'flying time' in. It is tough being a pilot in times of austerity. |

another far more obvious answer relates to Trow, given that he is under state protection for his conspiracy work on here. I imagine a helicopter or small plane strayed into the 3km no fly zone around his house and the Swedish Air Force scrambled to jets to intercept it.

See fighter jets quite often as they do low level flying out over Dartmoor, one was so low once I could almost read the name on his helmet, the noise was incredible.
Must be fantastic to say when asked "what do you do for a living"..."oh I fly fighter jets".

At an airshow in Gbg a year or so ago, I met up with a Swedish Air Force pilot, and we chatted for a while, and he was very unassuming indeed. Not at all as I might have expected, and definitely not the 'I fly fighter planes' type. Mentioning the flights service aircraft took over the west coast, he said that it was there they most often did their training flights. He flew from the air force base at Såvenäs, and was in Gbg as part of an air force demonstration flight, and when they later flew, I felt as if I was 'part' of that demonstration, actually knowing one of the pilots flying.
The jets of today were far removed from some of the other aircraft at that show - namely the Spitfire, and a replica of an old WW1 biplane. It was difficult to say which I enjoyed most - the Spitfire (memories of WW2 and the Blitz on London where I lived) and the super Swedish jet aircraft of which I had made the acquaintance of that pilot. The sound of the Spitfire was unmistakeable, and its manouverability far in excess of the jets, but their speed made up for the difference. But no matter what the aircraft - it is only as good as its pilot, and they need their training flights, no matter what. So when you see or hear these aircraft in flight, be thankful that they are there, and put in a good word for their pilots. Life isn't easy at 1000+ kph, or at more than 1G. They are only human, like you or me. |

You have never seen military training flights before? What a sheltered life you must have led |
