Hi,
Just moved to Sweden with the kids and my swedish wife. The free education for the kids and healthcare for us is a good incentive to stay on for the moment. Naturally there are greener pastures we'd like to move on to but not many places offers such great perks. Are there any overseas swedish schools which have free education until high school? I've heard there are free swedish online schools/colleges? Does swedish insurance cover healthcare visits overseas? Maybe we'd like to eventually split our time between sweden and another place since we work from home anyway. Any tips appreciated. |

There are Swedish schools in some places - London for example
http://www.swedishschool.org.uk/ There is a list of the addresses of other Swedish schools on the left side of this page http://www.skolverket.se/forskola-och-skol...a_utlandsskolor There are also several other alternatives http://www.skolverket.se/forskola-och-skola/utbildning-utomlands/svensk_undervisning_i_utlandet There are distance courses Sofia distance has grundskola http://www.sofiadistans.nu/ Or Värmdö distans has gymnasiet http://www.varmdodistans.se/ There is also so called "kompletterande" Swedish education where school associations are financed by Skolverket to run Swedish classes on the side of children attending ordinary state or international schools in other countries http://www.skolverket.se/forskola-och-skol...r_kolforeningar There is also the Swedish section of the Europa school - primarily for EU employees' children http://www.skolverket.se/forskola-och-skol...paskolor-1.9742 |

No disrespect there, Puffin, but surely that is true but with restrictions. I.e. the location of the embassies, consulates and companies. Turn it round the other way - how many English schools are there outside Stockholm or Göteborg? At a guess it is similar abroad, from Sweden that is.

Of course it exists! What do you think the children of diplomats/multinational employees do? I suspect a lot of embassy staff who work in many global countries during the course of their career, the same for big CEOs and the like, probably use private schools, mainly English speaking? I've seen lots of private 'english school' in many capital cities around the globe, but no Swedish ones, but then I wasn't looking for them either. I don't doubt they may be some place that are call themselves Swedish, but how many teach in Swedish or follow the syllabus? Can't see how it's very good for the kids, with a tidal flow of friends come and go, major transition for their kids, all for the same of satisfying the parents whims? |
