Export Restrictions on Aquavit?

Trying to find OP Anderson in the US

Does anyone know if something has changed legally in Sweden to prevent OP Anderson, or any other Swedish Aquavit, from being exported? Or maybe something happened with the producer of it? I have been looking everywhere in the US and I can only find Norweigan and Danish aquavit. We used to be able to find it (2-3 years ago) relatively easily at Swedish/Scandinavian stores in the NY area, but now it is just gone. I wuold appreciate any information you can give.

Thanks!

No export restrictions on alcohol, only import restrictions.
The US importer probably dropped the brand due to low sales.

I think its got to do with Pernod-Rickard buying the brand. Maybe they have some cartel agreement or are selling competing aqvavit in the USA... who knows. Maybe someone patented the name and Pernod won't budge and pay the royalties or something silly like that.

When Pernod-Ricard bought the V&S group a couple of years ago they did so primarily because Absolut was part of it. A number of other brands, among them all Swedish aquavits, came with the purchase. However, Pernod-Ricard has no interest in handling the very small export volumes of aquavits and have therefore recently sold the aquavit brands to Arcus in Norway. It remains to be seen what they plan to do but, meanwhile, there are no exports of aquavits from Sweden.

Import restrictions do not exist within the EU, Freedom of Movement of Goods wink.gif
There are no limits for import of alcohol for personal use, if imported from within the EU.
Companies also have great freedom to import alcohol into Sweden from within the EU. You just can't get it onto the shelves of the System Bolaget that easily.
