Hello,

My wife and I are moving to the Lund/Malmo area at the beginning of January. We have 2 cats that we would like to bring but have found it to be very difficult to find any apartments that will accept cats.
Also, we will likely have to stay in temporary apartments while we search for a permanent apartment. This makes it nearly impossible to bring the cats. We really do not want to part with them as we consider them a part of our family.

Does anyone know of any apartments that will accept cats?

Also, does anyone know what we might do with the cats temporarily while we stay in temporary housing? Would anyone be willing to take them in for the short period of time until we can find an apartment that accepts them? We could pay for food and litter. They are very nice and love attention from people.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rent a house. These are very very cheap in Lund, often under 10000 SEK per month and most owners will be fine with your cats.

Look on Blocket.se for your rentals. They will show what pets are accepted, usually. Always ask, even if they don't advertise that they allow cats. LOTS of Swedes do not like cats, unfortunately.
I moved from California to Uppsala and had no problem. If your cat(s) are clean and only use a kitty litter box you should have no problem. They don't like indoor/outdoor cats because the cars are left out and get attacked by wild animals or hit by cars and also with an apt. There is no way for them to go out and come in so, they are left outside, usually all day.
Also, there is a law in Sweden that you MUST enclose your whole balcony with chicken wire or netting (which is sold in all pet shops). There used to be a problem with cats jumping off balconies and dying so, this is why the enclosing of balcony law is there. You will get fined if you do not obey the law. Good luck!
