Hi,
I'm newly trained as an AAT accountant in the UK and I've lived in Sweden for 10 months on/off prior with my Swedish partner. I have a personal number, and I'm learning my Swedish too. What is the procedure for an accountant to seek work in Sweden? Apart from the language (obviously..) I understand the tax system etc is different so do you train up or ...? Thanks. |

There are various barriers to overcome depending on the specific type of accountancy work that you are looking for. It's a tough market and generally employers will not want to employ you (as a book-keeper or accountant) unless you are nearly fluent in Swedish and have a good knowledge of the Swedish tax system. Even then, employers in Sweden will naturally favour the natives.

Thank you for your reply - but I didn't ask to be told that I had to be fluent in Swedish which I already stated that I'm aware of in my original message. I asked if you need to follow training e.g a course to attain a good knowledge of the Swedish tax system - which they obviously don't teach you in any other country other than Sweden.

I suggest you re-read your original post. You may need, firstly, to master English before attempting Swedish. A little more humility will serve you well in your quest for work. |

Here i a little light reading, and a couple of organisations that might prove useful:
EU basic info with a few links about Accounts-Sweden http://europa.eu/youreurope/business/manag...en/index_en.htm FAR - Branchorganisationen för revisorer och rådgiverare (I linked you to the recognition of foreign qualifications http://www.far.se/In-English/Recognition-o...Qualifications/ Bokföringsnämnden (only 1 page available in English, rest is Swedish) http://www.bfn.se/english.aspx (as they say...Note: There is no official translation of the accounting legislation or the standard setting into English) |

Being self righteous (and not to mention ignorant) gets you nowhere I'm afraid. I come on here seeking advice, and what do I get? I get a response from Captain Obvious. |

Sprout off? That's a new one.
Where in your original post did you state that you are aware for the need for FLUENCY in Swedish? This is the adult world now and you need to get real. When assistance/advice is offered on this forum it is often blunt and brusque; you will need to learn to deal with this. |

You're boring me now. Please do hush, or go learn some social skills. Clearly the other members on this forum aren't as cynical and bitter as you. Remember to smile, it gets you a long way.
Thank you for the other replies they were extremely helpful. :-) |
