The Royal Armoury, Livrustkammaren in Swedish, is the oldest museum in Sweden. It islocated in the Stockholm Royal Palace, and established in 1628 by Gustav II Adolf. It originally stored the royal arsenal of weapons, until the king declared that clothing such as uniforms should be preserved there as well. The result is a museum where visitors are introduced to 500 years of Swedish royal history, right at the heart of royal Stockholm. Further objects of historic significance on display include regalia and ceremonial objects. Historical paperwork including receipts, inventory registries and account information are also kept there, providing researchers with a wealth of information. Toys and royal children's clothes are among the other exhibits. Some of the exhibitions are aimed at children, who are invited to learn about chivalry, dress up, and participate in games.
