Homeless people want better teeth

Apparently what homeless people in Sweden want the most - after a home, that is - is proper dental care.

According to Svenska Dagbladet, new research shows that homeless people are generally badly treated when trying to get their teeth fixed and are often refused care. The theory is that people feel better about themselves if they have healthy and clean teeth.

Homeless people, especially, would benefit from increased self-confidence, said the report.

“If you haven’t had dental treatment for many years, as a result of being on the street, or if you have suffered drug addiction or alcohol abuse it really shows on your teeth,” said Patricia de Palma from Karolinska Hospital.

“Help with your teeth could be a way back,” she said.
