Teachers “not good enough at mathematics”

Mathematics skills are not up to standard in Swedish schools. Children are not interested and teachers don't have enough academic training to lecture on the subject, according Svenska Dagbladet.

A training budget of up to 2.5 million crowns is to be provided by the government to improve teaching over the next five years. Up to 20,000 teachers will receive “further training” in mathematics, and another 1,000 will receive training “equivalent to one term at university”.
