Svenska Dagbladet revealed this week that US marine forces are keen to hire a Swedish submarine, including its crew, because of its "impressive technology".

The Swedes would supply the Gotland Class submarine for essential training for the American forces and would have to "act as the enemy" in mock attacks. The government is keeping quiet on the financial and legal aspects of the agreement.

"The contract would be set for a longer period of time though, and the Americans have to pay a substantial amount of money, that's for sure", said Anders Hedgren, Press Officer at The Swedish Defence Authority. SvD speculated that it could cost up to 160 million crowns per year for the Americans to rent the submarine.
