Record year for nuclear power
Even though one Barsebäck reactor has been decommissioned, Sweden’s four nuclear power stations have already generated more electricity than for the whole of last year. “Nuclear power will account for more than half of all Sweden’s electricity production,” says Lars Frithiof, Sydkraft’s MD.
TDC preparing new bid
Tele2 yesterday raised its bid for Song Networks and announced that it could consider sharing ownership of the broadband company with rival bidder TDC which, for its part, plans to raise its bid. Tele2 picked up more Song shares in the market on Tuesday, and now controls 18 per cent of the votes in the company. TDC owns 33 per cent.
Sydsvenska Dagbladet becomes Sydsvenskan
On Tuesday 5 October Sydsvenska Dagbladet will appear as a tabloid newspaper (half its present size). It will take the opportunity to shorten its name to Sydsvenskan. Dagens Nyheter and Göteborgs-Posten will also change over to tabloid format.

Finnish petrol station chain into Sweden
St1, a Finnish chain of petrol stations, is planning a move into Sweden. “We welcome this, as there will be more competition,” says Tomas Nilsson, press manager at the Swedish Automobile Association (Motormännen).
Skandiabanken moves into corporate market
Skandiabanken, which is primarily engaged in retail banking in Sweden, Denmark and Norway, plans to launch a corporate banking service next spring for small firms and professional such as dentists and consultants.
