Last summer proved that foreign tourists are keener than ever to visit Stockholm and its surrounding area, according to statistics from Stockholm Visitors Board.

German visitor numbers increased by 21 per cent this year, while American tourists were responsible for up to 106,422 nights in hotels across the city last summer. That's an increase of 13 per cent on the holiday season in 2003, explained SvD last Tuesday.

The British followed with an accumulated 85,374 nights of lodging in hotels around Stockholm, while the Russian tourists were far and few between with only 28,754 nights of bookings.
