Up to 171 students were suspended last year, and 58 students received a warning.

But this does not mean that students are cheating more today than in previous years, explained Tina Israelsson at Högskoleverket, the national body of universities and colleges in Sweden.

"Universities are just getting better at spotting plagiarism", said Israelsson.

She also confirmed that a new software programme has been developed to detect plagiarism. You have been warned.
