A man suffocated an eagle when it attacked his dog in Maltosrova outside Vittangi last Wednesday, according to DN on Thursday.

The man was out hunting for grouse when the eagle swept down and attacked his dog. It was about to lift the dog and fly away with it, when the man threw himself at it.

The eagle landed on his back and the man crushed it with his entire body weight, suffocating it. Eagles belong to a protected species so the man did the decent thing and called the police to report the unusual incident.

"The police do not consider this to be a crime", reported DN.
