Forecasts for new EU countries
Gunnar Tersman, an economist at Handelsbanken, talks to DI about his financial predictions for the new EU countries over the coming year. According to a survey carried out by the Swedish Trade Council (Exportrådet), Estonia has easily the best business conditions due to less complicated regulations and increasing purchasing power. However, Hungary may suffer setbacks because of major structural problems and imbalance in financial policy.
Astra withdraws application
Pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca has withdrawn its application from the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for the drug Iressa, a treatment for patients with non-small cell lung cancer.
Christmas shopping down
Up to 21 December clothes sales in Sweden had dropped by 2 per cent and shoes by 5 per cent compared to the same period last year. The sectors concerned have subsequently lowered their sales forecasts.
