"Persson wrong" says Skandiabanken

"PM Göran Persson was wrong when he claimed that public consumption had not increased over the past few years," says Sven-Arne Svensson, senior economist at Skandiabanken.

"The fact is that public consumption has risen as a share of total consumption over the past seven years," he said.

SE-Banken reports record profit

SEB reported its highest yearly profit ever. The operating profit rose by 16 % to SKr 9.3 billion, largely earned on share-related business (stockbroking commissions, custodial fees etc) on a strong stock market. Net interest, by contrast, fell for the first time in several years.

Overheated VC market

The Swedish venture capital market is enjoying a boom on the back of easy lending by banks. Insiders have been forecasting an "avalanche" of divestments, buy-ins/outs for the past year. Now it has arrived, and analysts are becoming concerned over the risk of overheating.

Business travellers on the wing

Sweden’s business people travelled more last year, when business travel rose faster than after the Gulf War in 1991. The number of business passengers flying was up by 11 % on 2003.
