Roger Bolander, head of Sony Ericsson's Nordic operations is to take over the top position in the company's newly established Russian division. As of April 1 Bolander will head the company's operations in Moscow.

Bolander, who has been at Sony Ericsson since 2000, will be responsible for managing the development of Sony Ericsson in Russia.

Under Bolander's leadership the mobile phone company has developed at a considerable rate and is now the market leader Sweden and second largest in the Nordic region.

Bolander's appointment is clearly a major strategic move by the company aimed at securing Sony Ericsson a large slice of the Russian market. With a population of almost 144 million, the company will be looking to establish a solid footing across the baltic.

"Russia represents a massive market which is developing at an incredible rate," Bolander told ComputerSweden.

Last year alone 22 million mobile phones were sold.

"The region has immense potential for Sony Ericsson."
