Local authorities stay in the black

There was some welcome good news for Sweden's municipalities, or local authorities, on Friday.

In spite of the predictions of doom and gloom, Sweden’s local authorities finished last year in the black, with an overall balance of 2.6 billion kronor. The figure is almost a billion more than the previous year.

According to Statistics Sweden, two out of three local authorities have avoided falling into the red.

Only one in five local authorities had a deficit of more than five hundred kronor per inhabitant.
