Spray moves into phone market

From Wednesday customers can sign-up for a new telephone service from Swedish internet service provider Spray.

The company claims the new venture was motivated by its customers’ desire to have broadband and telephone charges on the same monthly bill.

The service, which is scheduled to launch on June 1, will cost 118 kronor a month plus call charges.

Daniel Dersén, a spokesperson for Spray, says, “Our strategy is that our customers will always be able to ring more cheaply than with Telia, Tele2 and Glocalnet.”

With Spray firmly established as an internet service provider, it remains to be seen whether the company will be able to sustain this new challenge, particularly as the increasing adoption of IP telephony in the Nordic market is threatening to make traditional landline telephones a thing of the past.
