SWECO VIAK are to undertake a large-scale study to help combat pollution in St. Petersburg, Russia. The aim of the project is to identify the source of any problems and make substantial environmental improvements in the city.

SWECO VIAK will investigate the emissions produced by the city's existing treatment plants and industries. The municipal sewage network will also be studied and a programme of remedial measures formulated.

The assignment is being carried out on behalf of the water utility Vodokanal in St. Petersburg with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
