Football clubs “should pay for police”

Football clubs should pay for police deployments during high-risk matches, according to a police executive quoted in the Swedish press on Monday.

With football clubs turning into for-profit companies, ticket prices should include the cost of police protection, as is the case for rock concerts, Kristina Axen Olin, a member of the Stockholm country executive committee said.

“Sports organizers should pay for police protection just like concert organizers do,” she was quoted in daily Svenska Dagbladet as saying.

Police deployment at football matches in Sweden requires 28 full-time police officers, costing 14 million kronor (1.9 million dollars) per year.
