Swedish power company Vattenfall said on Tuesday that it is seeking to build Northern Europe's biggest wind turbine park in the Baltic Sea between Sweden and Germany.

Vattenfall is planning to invest eight billion Swedish kronor (1.1 billion dollars) to build between 100 and 150 wind power plants, giving a total output of between 500 and 640 megawatts.

The wind farm will be located in the Swedish part of Kriegers Flak, a shallow area in the Baltic Sea between Germany and Sweden.

Vattenfall hopes to be awarded the concession for the wind farm next year, which would mean that construction would begin in 2009 and be completed the following year.

To acquire the capacity to build the farm, Vattenfall has acquired two companies, Sweden Offshore AB and Östersjöns Vindkrafts AB.
