Ericsson shifts Kalmar production to China

Ericsson plans to restructure its operations in the southern Swedish town of Kalmar, in a move likely to lead to redundancies.

The Kalmar plant, which research and manufacture power modules for telecommunication equipment, with the restructuring affecting 130 of the 230 employees.

The Kalmar operations will in the future concentrate on research and bringing new products to market, while manufacturing will be concentrated in China, Ericsson said.

The company added in a press release that the changes were needed to "reduce fixed costs and to ensure that operations remain competitive."

Any job loss notifications will be announced in the autumn.
