A Swedish woman, arrested in Manila with 2.5 kilograms of amphetamines, has been sentenced to life in prison in the Philippines, the Swedish foreign ministry said Saturday.

"A Swedish woman was sentenced to life in prison in the Philippines on June 29," ministry spokesman Kent Oberg told AFP.

"She was arrested at Manila airport in September 2000 with 2.5 kilos of locally produced amphetamines," he said, adding that she would "probably appeal" the judgement.

The woman, 36, has been in custody in the Philippines since her arrest, Oberg said.
