An 18 year old girl was raped on Sunday night on the way home from Jordbro train station, in the south of Stockholm.

The attack brings the number of rapes in the capital in June and July to 41. That compares to 23 in the same period last year. The total number of rapes and attempted rapes in the county during the last two months were 169.

The 18 year old was walking home when, in a wooded area, she was set upon by a man aged 35-40.

Police expecting to be able to use pictures from the train's security cameras were disappointed.

"We have spoken to the public transport people but the train's security cameras weren't working," said police detective Hans Anderson.

According to the police, the cameras have been out of order since February.
