SSU, the troubled youth wing of the Social Democratic Party, has elected a new leader. Anna Sjödin was unanimously elected at the organisation's annual conference in Linköping.

As well as electing Sjödin, who comes from the right of the party, delegates at the conference chose left-leaning Mattias Vepsä to be secretary of the organisation.

Both Sjödin and Vepsä underlined the importance of SSU uniting to put scandals over financial irregularities and allegations of inflated membership figures behind them.

“SSU is in a difficult position right now, but it is time to move on,” said Vepsä.

Sjödin said that she would seek to prioritise youth unemployment and feminism.
