Swedish ice hockey star Peter Forsberg has signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but TSN of Canada reported the deal is worth $10.7 million (81.4 million kronor).

"Peter Forsberg is one of the best players in the game," Flyers general manager Bob Clarke said. "We signed him knowing that he puts us over the (39 million-dollar salary cap), and we will have to trade some guys now."

Forsberg, who won a gold medal with Sweden in the 1994 Olympics, is moving from the Colorado Avalanche, where he has twice been on a team to have won the Stanley Cup, ice hockey's premier challenge cup.

“Philadelphia has a good organisation that wants to win the Stanley Cup,” Forsberg told Swedish news agency TT.
