One person has died and six have been injured in a fire in Sundbyberg, north of Stockholm, on Friday morning. One person was rushed by helicopter to the Academic hospital in Uppsala, while at least two others were taken to the Karolinska hospital in Solna.

"It was a violent fire and an apartment on the ground floor is completely burnt out," said the police information officer Diana Sundin, who was on the scene in Hallonbergen.

According to Sundin, the fire had begun to spread to the rest of the building when the rescue services arrived.

"The building was full of smoke. The fire still isn't fully out," she said, just before 9am.
