Man killed by train as he tries to save girlfriend

A 19 year old man died on Thursday morning after being hit by a freight train in Lund.
Moments before the accident he had called the police and told them that he was trying to stop his girlfriend from throwing herself in front of the train.
The girlfriend escaped without injuries, but was taken to hospital suffering from shock. The man died immediately.
The train driver had seen two people on the track from several hundred metres away and slammed on the brakes. But the train failed to stop in time.
Rail traffic between Malmö and Lund was stopped, causing serious delays.
