Orkla ASA, one of the largest companies in Norway, has bid 1.4 billion kronor for Swedish newspaper group Centertidningar, the highest bid from among the three remaining bidders, the online version of Swedish magazine Resume reported without citing sources.

Centertidningar, which is currently owned by Sweden's Centre Party, has annual sales of 750 million Swedish kronor and a profit of around 80 million kronor, the magazine said.

Orkla ASA employs some 35,000 people and supplies branded consumer goods to the Nordic market.

According to Resume's sources, the other two bidders are Schibsted ASA - a Norwegian-owned media group - and two Swedish companies, Gota Media och Norrköpings Tidningar, who are cooperating on a bid.
