A 16 year old boy has life threatening injuries following a knife attack by another boy in a fight between two youth gangs in Stockholm's Söder late on Friday night.

The boy has serious knife wounds in his back and stomach and, according to police, his condition on Saturday morning was "unstable".

Two gangs, with a total of up to 30 people, began brawling on Långholmsgatan in Södermalm. Police said that the incident was not ethnically motivated and that it appeared to be a dispute between two gangs from different parts of the city.

Other youths were also mildly injured in the fight.

The 16 year old attacked has been arrested on suspicion of attempted manslaughter or serious assault. Other gang members were interviewed by police overnight but nobody else has been taken into custody.
