Around 2,500 pigs are thought to have been burned to death when a massive barn in Blacksta, near Örebro, caught fire in the small hours of Saturday morning.

The fire was still not under control by mid-morning. The owner said he believed that only 300-400 pigs survived.

"It's impossible to know yet - there are pigs running all over the place in the farmyard," said Torbjörn Roos, the duty officer at Örebro police.

"There won't be a technical inspection until Monday morning at the earliest."
