Swedes hit by child porn spam

Hundreds of Swedes have received unsolicited emails containing child pornography, Swedish police have said.

The emails have started arriving in Swedish inboxes over the past few days, according to Swedish Radio.

Spam mails with links to child porn sites are not unusual, said Anette Ahlenius from the Swedish Police’s child porn group, but emails actually containing images was a new phenomenon.

“Unfortunately it is hard to trace the senders of these emails. But where we can do this, and where we are able to prioritise this, we will naturally do so,” she told SR.

Ahlenius added that people would have difficulty stopping such email. Blocking certain email addresses could have some effect, she said, but added that as the spammers change their addresses all the time, the benefits of this might be limited.
