Two fires in apartment blocks in Västerås could have been arson, police say.

The latest fire, in a high-rise block in the city, started early on Tuesday morning.

The fire started in the attic but didn't spread any further, although the house was closel to the block of flats on Bangatan that caught fire on Monday night, reported VLT online.

The police suspect that both fires were arson attacks.

“Considering the similarities to the fire on Vitmåragatan it is very likely that the fire on Bangatan was an arson attack as well”, confirmed Johan Håvedal, Police Officer in Västmanland.

All of the 37 flats on Bangatan had to be evacuated on Monday night and six to seven of the flats on the top floors were severely damaged by smoke and water.
