All I want for Christmas is the right to pollute

For just 175 kronor environmentally-aware Swedes can pick up the latest must-have Christmas gift: a carbon dioxide emission quota.
The offer is the brainchild of the Museum of Lake Vänern which, along with the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation (SSNC), has bought emissions rights for 10 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
That's about the same amount of pollution that would be produced by a car travelling 15,100 kilometres.
175 kronor will buy you half a tonne's worth of pollution, the right to which would be owned by the SSNC.
The point, says the museum, is that more quotas bought by private individuals means that fewer are available for industry, which will then be forced to cut its carbon dioxide emissions.
