Window cleaners trapped fifty metres up

A rescue operation was underway in Malmö on Sunday night after two window cleaners got stuck on the twentieth floor of Sweden's tallest building, the Turning Torso.

The window cleaners, in an elevator on the outside the building, were stranded fifty metres above the pavement. Malmö fire brigade did not have the resources to help the men, and called in support from emergency services in nearby Höganäs.

"They are experts at climbing up and down on ropes," said a spokesperson at SOS Alarm in Malmö.

The Höganäs firemen will try to winch themselves down to the window cleaners and help them either up or down. There are evacuation points on every fifth floor.
