Nordic bank Nordea made a profit before tax of 3 billion euros, or 28 billion kronor, in 2005. That represents an improvement of 11% on the previous year and means that with all business areas combined, 2005 was the bank's best year ever.

Operating profit for the final quarter of the year was 748 million euros, compared to 677 million in 2004. The average prediction from forecasts, according to Reuters, was a profit of 679 million euros.

The board is proposing raising the dividend to 0.35 euros per share from 0.28 euros per share.
