So far this year Volvo Cars' new registrations have dropped by 5,000 on the European market, while Saab Automobile has increased by 3,000.
"There's restraint in car sales in Europe with a weak start in several markets, which is affecting us at Volvo," said press officer Christer Gustafsson to TT.
However, he said that the company was optimistic for the rest of the year, with the introduction of new S80 and C70 models. In the autumn the company is launching a smaller C30 model.
Volvo's new registrations dropped 12% during February compared to the same period last year.
Saab's sales, in contrast, climbed 37.5%, according to industry organisation Acea.
