The men, who were wearing masks, made their way into the store through the warehouse area at around 6am and forced staff to open the safe. Prior to that, they had used pepper spray in an attack on a driver who was delivering goods to the store.
Marie-Louise Nilsson, a spokesperson at Stockholm police, said that it was unclear whether the pair got away with any cash.
“They were last seen running from the store, but we don’t yet know if they had a car waiting anywhere,” she told TT.
By 7am twelve police units, including dog teams, were searching for the men in the area.
Meanwhile in Gothenburg, two men armed with knives robbed another Lidl store, this time in Kortedala in Gothenburg, at around 6.30am.
The robbers got into the office via the loading bay, dragging a delivery driver and a member of staff in with them. They forced the employee to open the safe.
Before they escaped they taped the driver’s and the staff member’s hands and locked them into the office.
As in Stockholm, police units with dogs are searching the area.
