Swedish students turn to parents

One in three university students in Sweden gets financial help from parents, and half work in part-time jobs to cover living expenses, according to a survey of over 9,000 students.

Swedish students have traditionally been supported by the state rather than family, through a mixture of grants and loans. The new poll shows that many feel they can't get by on state support alone, Dagens Nyheter reports.

Around 2,000 of the 9,151 students said they had avoided going to the dentist or buying course books because of financial difficulties.

The full report, carried out by Cosmos Communications, is due to be published next week.
