Drugs man still on the loose

A drugs suspect who escaped from a Swedish courtroom on Friday with the help of two armed men remained at large on Monday afternoon. Police say they have no leads on his whereabouts or those of the men who released him.

“The information we have received has not given any concrete results. We are now trying to get inside information and are looking for him in places we think he could be,” said Västerås Police’s spokesman Börje Strömberg.

Police are not ruling out the possibility that the 52-year old has left the country. Detectives do not currently know who his accomplices are.

The man was appearing at Västerås district court for a detention hearing on Friday afternoon when the armed men entered the courtroom, allowing him to escape to a stolen car waiting outside.

Witnesses saw the men leaving the court in the car, which was later found abandoned elsewhere in the town, 110 kilometres east of Stockholm. The 52-year old is suspected of being the leader of a big drugs ring.
