Single horses ban planned to combat loneliness

Put out another bag of oats. If the Swedish animal protection agency gets its way, the 14,000 Swedish single horse owners will be required to buy an additional horse or sell their original.

“Horses need social contact and can get it through other grazing animals or socializing with humans,” said Åsa Regnander, a veterinary inspector.

“But the best is contact with others from the same species. You should not have horses alone.”

Regnander said she expects some disagreement, but nothing from organized groups.
