A man wanted by police for the suspected attempted murder of a bus driver in Örebro is now in police custody.

The man is suspected of stabbing a 62-year-old bus driver in the town, 200 kilometres west of Stockholm, last Monday.

“He is suspected of attempted murder,” said Torbjörn Roos, a spokesman for Örebro police.

According to Roos, those leading the investigation are maintaining secrecy until more is known.

It was Monday night around 6:30 pm on the city bus when two men got on the bus. One of the men began a conversation about payment with the driver. One of the men took out a knife and stabbed the driver in the stomach, reported TT.

After the stabbing, both men ran from the scene. The driver was admitted to the hospital for life threatening injuries, but is now in stable condition.
