Forest fires 'started deliberately'

Police in the central Swedish town of Sveg were hunting for a pyromaniac on Thursday morning, after several wildfires mysteriously broke out.

“Somebody that has lit these,” said Kent Svensson, a rescue service spokesman. “There is no reasonable explanation for these fires starting.”

Three forest fires broke out on Thursday morning, one in Överberg, north of Sveg, another near a shooting range in Sveg, and a third near a slalom hill in Sveg. All three have been put out.

Police are on the scene with dogs to track scents and are taking tips from locals.

All three fires were smaller than the forest fires which Wednesday threatened some 30 summer houses near Vallsjön. Police and rescue services see no connection between these fires.
