Pier collapses in Västerås
A 30 metre long section of a concrete pier in Västerås harbour collapsed just before 5pm on Monday. A number of leisure boats were dragged down into the wreckage, but police have no details of anyone being hurt.
Divers from the fire brigade a searching the area around the pier.
The section which collapsed was part of the outer pier in Västerås harbour, in the centre of the town. According to SOS Alarm nobody was on the pier at the time.
The cause of the collapse is still unclear. Eyewitnesses said that ten leisure boats, both motor boats and sailing boats, were pulled down into the water.
"When I was down there having a look there was a rumour that another part of the jetty was about to give way," one onlooker told TT.
