Swedish outdoor power product maker Husqvarna has recalled 174,000 lawn tractors in the United States.

A series of fires have started as the fuel hose pulled away from the vehicle's tank. According to the US Consumer Safety Commission, 886 reports of a loose fuel hose have come into the agency – 16 of which have led to fires.

No similar risk exists on similar tractors in Sweden, according to the company's spokeswoman Åsa Stenqvist.

"According to our information, there are no such tractors in Europe," she said. "These were manufactured in the United States for the American market."

The tractor in question has been sold under six different company labels and was made at the Husqvarna plant in South Carolina.

The tractor model is a smaller unit that is used to cut grass.

Stenqvist said she did not believe anybody was seriously injured during the reported fires.
