A man has been detained over the murder of a heavily pregnant woman, whose body was found in a lake near Ekerö, Stockholm, last Sunday.

Police also say they have identified the woman's body, but said on Friday afternoon that they were not making her identity public.

"I can confirm that a 35-year old man was arrested this afternoon after 1pm in south Stockholm," police spokeswoman Diana Sundin told The Local. She said it was too early to talk of charges against the man.

"He is to be questioned to see whether he knows anything about the woman's death," she added.

"I expect we will also start to contact everyone who knew the woman.".

Police said on Wednesday that the woman appeared to be of foreign extraction, and that she could have been dead since the end of last year. They said that she had been murdered.
